- Hi All,
-
- About a year ago I purchased a Motorola Lifestyle 28.8 modem, and had some
- trouble setting it up. After looking very carefully at the manual I came up
- with the following init strings - My system uses 2!!.
-
- 1st string - AT&F1 - to set factory drfaults just in case ...
-
- 2nd string - ATL2\\N6%R2*FT1*TD16*TH1
-
- L2 - to set the speaker so that I can hear it start up
- \\N6 - to force a protocol connection, I have to put two // in as my dialler
- uses C type escape sequences
- %R2 - to set the retraining threshold to something sensible
- *FT1 - to allow fast train-up
- *TD16 - to set the line transmit level down to -16dBm. In New Zealand, and I
- suspect also in Australia our telephone system follows British standards as
- far as the line connections are concerned, and the internal hybrid network
- should use a complex impedance, while the American standard is to use a 600
- ohm resistive network. Thus there is a small mismatch, and setting the line
- level down improves my connections due to reflected signals from the far end.
- *TH1 - sets the error detectio threshold to something sensible also.
-
- I have had no problems with this string with any other modems that I connect
- to.
-
- However for Doom playing I seem to remember that data comression, and some
- protocol connections do not work well, and in the early days of doom people
- were recommended to manually stet their 14.4 modems to 9600 and not allow
- modems to negotiate the connection speed!! I do not know whether this still
- applies to 28.8 modems but it might.
-
-
- I hope that this helps a little.
-
- Regards
